About

In a Nutshell

I am a feminist, humanist, and technologist, working at the intersections of digital cultures, social justice, and public imagination.

Professional Profile

I am Professor of Global Media & Culture at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where I lead the Digital Narratives Studio and direct the Masters in Global Communication programme. My work examines how digital technologies shape—and are shaped by—social, political, and cultural life, with a focus on the Global South.

Research & Teaching Focus

My research brings together feminist and queer theory, critical technology studies, and media histories to explore questions of governance, care, and collective futures. I position both research and teaching as acts of public engagement—ways to build shared vocabularies, challenge extractive systems, and imagine more just worlds.

Public Engagement & Service

Much of my work is collaborative, developed through partnerships with movements, networks, and institutions. I serve as a Faculty Associate at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society, Harvard University, and as a knowledge partner to the Feminist Internet Research Network. I lead projects like the Generative AI Network (:GAIN) with IDRC & Dakila (Philippines), BreAIk ChAInge RegenerAIte art residency (Goethe Institute, India), Feminist Internet Research Network (APC) and the Possible AIs Speculative Technology Institute (CREA), working with global partners to shape technology for equity and care.

Past Work & Contributions

Before joining CUHK, I served as Vice President of Research at the ArtEZ University of the Arts in the Netherlands, leading institutional strategies for art, design, and media education. I was the founding Director of Research at the Centre for Internet & Society, India, where I developed interdisciplinary programmes on digital inclusion, gender, and emerging technologies. Over the last two decades, I have worked with universities, cultural institutions, and policy bodies across Asia, Europe, and the Americas to design research frameworks, capacity-building programmes, and public engagement initiatives.

I believe in the transformative power of knowledge building and strive to translate research into movements, communities, and everyday lives.
